Znojmo - The repaired town hall tower in Obroková Street in Znojmo will open to the public later than planned. The reconstruction was supposed to be finished this autumn, but the deadline has been pushed to the beginning of spring next year due to rainy weather and increasing repairs. In addition to the roof, other repairs will be made, such as to the tower clock, said Pavel Kovařík, spokesman for the Znojmo town hall. The repairs will cost the city 30 million crowns.

The tower was closed for reconstruction last May. It is now about halfway complete, with expert work finished. "We found that more work will be needed on more elements than we originally anticipated," Kovařík stated. In addition to the roof, rafters, and viewing platform, repairs will also be needed for the tower clock. "Alongside the reconstruction, we are also preparing a new exhibition about the history of the town hall, which was not originally planned. And of course, the rainy weather and the approaching winter, when work will be less, somewhat disrupt our plans," he added.

The reconstruction of the viewing tower will cost 30 million crowns, with funds coming from the city budget. The public has also contributed to the tower. "A total of 92 donors contributed over 240,000 crowns," Kovařík added. The town hall tower is a landmark of the city and is one of the sought-after tourist destinations. Around 30,000 tourists visit it each year. It measures 67 meters, and tourists must climb over 160 steps to reach the viewing platform at a height of about 56 meters. On a clear day, the peaks of the Alps can be seen from the tower. The last major reconstruction took place in 1993.
