Rakovník - Rakovník presented a study for the construction or renovation of a sports hall. The existing building does not meet adequate specifications, lacking dimensions for certain official competitions and sufficient capacity. The city will choose from seven options for solutions. The study shows the advantages, disadvantages, and costs of repairs, new construction, and other possibilities. It will be assessed by the city authorities. Athletes can also provide feedback to the city, said Rakovník's mayor Luděk Štíbr (ODS) at a public meeting.
"I prefer the option of creating a new space and renovating the existing one," the mayor stated. He added, however, that this is his personal opinion. According to him, any demolition and reconstruction of the hall, which is one of the other options, would mean that for two years there would not be an appropriate space for sports in the city.
The construction of a new hall is estimated to cost more than one hundred million crowns, partial repairs of the existing hall around ten million, and complete renovations over eighty million. The city will only know the exact amounts after the project is completed. It can apply for grants once it has the project, including a building permit.
The timeline for when the city management will definitively decide on a solution option is not yet clear. However, according to the mayor, this does not prevent the possibility of starting gradual repairs on the existing hall, which the city took over last year after the council's decision. Until then, the hall belonged to a sports association that offered it to the city because it did not have enough funds for operation and potential investments.
