The city hall will decide whether there will be a residential zone around the Brno dam

Brno - The Brno City Council is awaiting a decision on whether the cottage colony by the Brno Reservoir will be transformed into a residential zone. The response will be included by the architects in the next version of the zoning plan. Councilors will also decide based on how much building a water supply and sewage system at the reservoir would cost. Experts are expected to calculate this in a document, the processing of which was approved by the city council, said Deputy Mayor Martin Ander (SZ) to ČTK.
    According to Ander, a study has been prepared for the construction of a water supply and sewage system on the right bank of the reservoir. However, he does not say how much the investment would cost. A new document will provide an answer to that.
    The possibility of building year-round habitable homes by the reservoir would be welcomed mainly by landowners in the area. "We are already recording attempts to build permanent housing there," said the deputy. However, the location is not well serviced; there is also a lack of quality public transport connections to the center of Brno.
    According to the deputy, the city councilors and representatives need to consider whether it would be worthwhile to construct a water supply and sewage system at the Brno Reservoir. The slopes above the reservoir represent a rugged terrain. Moreover, the individual cottages are much farther apart compared to typical urban development.
    Additionally, according to Ander, the city is only considering the construction of a main water supply and sewage pipeline, and not connections to the cottages. "Property owners would have to invest additional millions of crowns into them. We have no guarantee that they would connect to the sewage system if the city built it there," said the deputy.
    There are currently around 3000 cottages above the Brno Reservoir. People draw water from their own wells and have to dispose of wastewater into impermeable tanks for pumping out. This is monitored by officials from the building authority in Brno-Bystrc.
    The zoning plan, which will decide the future of the cottage colony, will begin to be discussed with the public in the middle of next year. It should come into effect within two years. Zoning plans are prepared by the city council with a validity of ten years; although changes can be made, they are usually only partial.
