Prague - The City Hall of the first district today announced the intention to lease Werich Villa to the Jan and Meda Mládkovi Foundation. The foundation wants to build a cultural and social center in the villa. Institutions interested in the villa have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the proposal from Museum Kampa and possibly submit their own. The council will decide on the lease in mid-September. CTK was informed today by Deputy Mayor Michal Valenta.

"We are giving all interested parties a chance to express their opinions on the intention and submit their offers," Valenta said. The foundation would like to lease the villa for 90 years. They propose a rent of one million dollars (about 20.5 million crowns), which they would prepay before the completion of the reconstruction. They would also pay one crown per day.
According to Valenta, the council discussed the length of the lease. However, the council will make the final decision, which will convene on September 13. It will also assess under what conditions the villa will be leased and any other offers.
Residents will also be able to express their opinions on the proposal. "It will either be directly at the council meeting or beforehand. But by the latest during the council meeting, people should have the chance to express their opinions," Valenta stated.
The city hall has tried to lease the villa in two previous selection procedures. Only Mládková applied in the second one. The city hall explained this partly by the fact that the conditions were quite strict. Moreover, unlike the previous procedure, it does not allow for the establishment of a restaurant facility in the building. Back then, the overwhelming majority of applicants assumed that some gastronomic operation would be established in the villa.
The previous competition took place two years ago. The company Colly won the procedure, which raised criticism. The city hall ultimately had to cancel the competition because it was not in compliance with the current wording of the Public Procurement Act. The second selection procedure was supposed to take place last June, but after a week, the council also canceled it.
