Prague - The City Council will discuss the proposal to amend the Prague Building Regulations (PBR) at today's meeting, which among other things aims to remove the requirement for so-called sunlight exposure for apartments. The agenda also includes the smart waste collection project, the closure of municipal companies, and a proposal for measures to combat climate change.

The requirement for sunlight exposure in the regulations means that on March 1, direct sunlight must reach one-third of the apartment's floor space for 90 minutes. According to critics, this forced architects to design buildings in unusual shapes to meet the standard. Sunlight exposure will be replaced by the already existing regulation on daylight illumination. This means that all living spaces must have windows.

Council members will discuss the comments submitted to the amendment by municipal departments and other institutions. If the document is approved, the city's leadership will send the amendment for notification to the European Commission through the Ministry for Regional Development, which is necessary for this regulation.

Council members will also review the financial statements of the companies Operator ICT and the Technical Administration of Communications, which are wholly owned by Prague. Another agenda item is the project to place sensors in underground containers to monitor their fill levels. The Council will also approve a conceptual document proposing the approach to combat climate change and the warming of the metropolis.
