Ostrava - The Anti-Corruption Police has been investigating nine major construction contracts of the Ostrava City Hall since the end of the year. Some of these were co-financed by European Union funds. Next week, detectives will take over the documents. This was stated today by city hall spokesperson Andrea Vojkovská and spokesperson of the Unit for the Detection of Corruption and Financial Crime Jaroslav Ibehej. "At this moment, we can only confirm that we are indeed dealing with the contracts. However, we will not comment on further details," said Ibehej. It is not known who is suspected and for what reasons in this context. Vojkovská confirmed that these are nine public contracts that the city hall announced and executed in the past. "Before the end of the year, the police requested all documentation. We are preparing that for them these days. In total, there are 21 folders," she said, adding that from the city hall's perspective everything is in order and no wrongdoing is admitted. "All contracts went through the Office of the Regional Council of Moravian-Silesian Region," she said. The server Novinky.cz reported that police are interested in, for example, the expensive hundred million construction of the recently completed Community Center Ostrava, the reconstruction of the city police building in Silesian Ostrava, the renovation of the Akord Cultural House in Zábřeh, the establishment of a visitor center in the zoo, the construction of bike paths in Silesian Ostrava, or the construction of a tram stop and roads near the Forum - Nová Karolina shopping center. The police are reviewing the cases due to suspicions of particularly serious crimes of abuse of public authority and securing an advantage in the awarding of public contracts.
