Bruntál - The project for the construction of a covered ice hockey rink in Bruntál is back on the table. Last May, however, the council approved its suspension. The main reason was the rising construction costs. City officials have now renewed the planned investment valued at 324 million crowns. Construction will only proceed if the municipality receives a grant. Jiří Ondrášek, the city spokesperson, said this today.
"Bruntál councilors have given new hope to the project of the covered ice hockey rink on Kavalcova Street by a large majority. They approved the realization of the construction of the new sports facility, provided that a grant is obtained," he stated. He added that they also approved the application for funding from the National Sports Agency and ensured the co-financing of the municipality's own share.
The estimated total expenditure on the project amounts to nearly 324 million crowns, but costs may significantly decrease after selecting the contractor. The grant can be a maximum of 120 million, while the remaining amount would be paid by the city. "By the middle of next year, a public procurement announcement must be made for the construction contractor, with the possibility of canceling the selection process in case the grant is not obtained. If the city receives a grant, the grant program anticipates realization by the end of 2025," Ondrášek stated.
Mayor Martin Henč (ANO) stated that the construction is important for the city. "Bruntál would move forward once again. Not only would the opportunities for leisure activities expand for our citizens, but the ice hockey rink, if realized, would also attract more visitors to the city. Everything, of course, depends on obtaining the grant," he said.
The failure to secure a grant was one of the reasons last year why the city decided to withdraw from the project, which would have been the largest investment for the city in the last 30 years.
