For the cultural house and hotel, Semily wants heritage protection

Semily – The Semily Cultural Center Golf and the adjacent Centrum hotel are seeking heritage protection. This is reported by today's Liberec supplement of MfD. They represent an interesting example of architecture in the brutalist style of the 1970s and 1980s. The town hall first attempted this in 2014 but was unsuccessful. The hotel then had a different owner. In February 2019, however, the town hall purchased the dilapidated hotel building for 3.675 million crowns and now wants heritage protection for the entire complex.

"Now that the entire property belongs to us, the chances of declaring it a cultural monument are greater. It is truly an extraordinary building, where most of the original furnishings have been preserved. Moreover, all previous repairs that have been made in the cultural center were done with regard to preserving the original brutalist style. I believe that if we succeed in declaring both the Golf center and the hotel as monuments, we will also obtain grants that will facilitate the costly reconstruction," said mayor Lena Mlejnková (Choice for Semily) to the newspaper.

The Golf Cultural Center complex, along with its dining hall, club rooms, and offices, was built in 1979 according to the design of Stavoprojekt Liberec. The architect Pavel Švancer is signed as the author, who is also a co-author of the hotel and transmitter Ještěd in Liberec. The national enterprise Kolora was responsible for the construction of the cultural center at the time, and the complex was largely built as part of the "Z" initiative. The center was divided into three parts, and in 1986 a hotel was added to it, built in the same style.
