Vizovice - The influx of refugees into Europe has brought more orders to Czech manufacturers of residential containers. For example, the Vizovice company Koma Modular has recorded a rise in demand. This is evident from statements made to ČTK. The company now has to hire employees, but is facing a shortage of quality workers in the domestic labor market.

The influx of refugees into Europe and the issue of their accommodation has also affected two companies in the Jeseník region that produce residential containers. At the production plant of the company in Supíkovice in the Jeseník region, which specializes in the production and assembly of modular buildings, it is now producing 30 modular units daily due to high demand, up from around 20 previously. The units are primarily shipped to Germany, but there is also interest in the Benelux countries, Nordic countries, and France. "The demand is enormous. Increased interest has been ongoing for 1.5 years, but this year it has escalated. There are many cities that urgently need modular housing," said the company's marketing director Jan Petr to ČTK today.
The company has had to introduce a third shift and is hiring additional employees. "We are looking for more people for production, especially skilled workers for assembly. We could increase production, but we cannot find quality workers," Petr stated. The company is primarily looking for plumbers, electricians, and drywallers. "We are looking for experienced workers who finish projects on construction sites. There is demand for them; not everyone is manually skilled. We have 250 assembly workers in the plant and are looking for at least 20 more. Moreover, the demand is long-term, so we offer them work for a longer period," he added.
The growing demand has also been felt by the leading domestic manufacturer of residential containers, the Česko-slezská výrobní company from Zlaté Hory in the Jeseník region. Since spring, it has been involved in supplying 2,500 special containers for housing construction for immigrants in Berlin. The contract was obtained through its majority shareholder, the Austrian company Containex. The director of Česko-slezská výrobní, Josef Žáček, told ČTK that production has increased. "But whether this is due to the situation with immigrants, I do not know. Our business partner in Austria has that information. Our containers are headed all over Europe," he said. In spring, he mentioned that thanks to the order for residential containers, the company would hire additional workers and production would increase from 30 containers daily to about 35.
The Vizovice company Koma Modular, which specializes in modular construction, is also supplying residential buildings to Germany that serve refugees. "It started last year; we provided housing for about 3,000 refugees, mainly in the Hamburg area, partially also in France," said Koma's marketing director Martin Hart to ČTK today. According to him, the company’s production capacity is filled until November.
This year, the influx of refugees into Europe has significantly intensified. Germany is feeling this considerably. Since the beginning of this year, 258,000 people have applied for asylum there, and for the entire year, it will be at least half a million. Last year, there were 202,000 asylum seekers. The overwhelming majority of refugees have undertaken the arduous and dangerous journey to Europe due to war, violence, and oppression in their home countries, according to the UN. A large portion of the refugees come from Syria, which has been ravaged by war for a long time.
