Příbram - Příbram is investing 3.2 million crowns in the reconstruction of the historic town hall. Workers will repair the windows, frames, cornices, and subsequently the façade of the building. The work began on Monday and will last until the end of October, the city spokesperson Eva Švehlová informed CTK today.
The reconstruction should not significantly affect the operation of the office; the town hall will remain accessible to the public throughout the process in normal mode. "The repair of the town hall's façade is very necessary. It is a building that should bring honor to our city, but primarily, it is in a condition where peeling plaster poses a danger to passing citizens," stated Mayor Jan Konvalinka (for ANO).
In the coming days, workers will set up scaffolding, so the sidewalk on Hailova Street will be temporarily closed. Conversely, the sidewalk on Tyršova Street should remain passable during the repairs.
The representative building of the savings bank and town hall was created between 1890 and 1893. The preparation of the project documentation was undertaken by the Prague architect Vojtěch Ignác Ullmann, as evidenced by the commemorative plaque in the vestibule. The two-story building was built by the company of prominent Příbram builder Antonín Bastl. The corner of the town hall was decorated in 1932 by academic sculptor Václav Šára with a sandstone emblem of the city framed by the figures of miners. The artistic design was created by academic painter Karel Hojden.
