Přerov - The residents of Přerov should soon expect the second new bridge. After the Tyrš Bridge, which is currently under construction, the city council is also preparing to build a new footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists at U Tenisu. The existing bridge over the Bečva River at this location was damaged by past floods and is in a state of emergency. City representatives already have 12 proposals for the future shape of the footbridge in hand, which they now want to present to residents. "The footbridge took a beating during last year's floods, the pillar was tilted and shifted. We repaired it temporarily, but it won't last long. Experts talk about a horizon of two to three years," said city secretary Jiří Bakalík to reporters today. According to city spokesman Bohuslav Přidal, companies from Přerov, Prague, and Brno have submitted 12 proposals to the city. The cost of constructing the new bridge, according to them, ranges from 18 to 35 million crowns. People will be able to see the proposals starting March 1 at an exhibition in the municipal information center. "It will be similar to the Tyrš Bridge, the public will be able to express their opinions on the proposals online," Přidal added. The current footbridge near the tennis courts is sagging, and the city had problems with the bridge during the floods. The future bridge, which is to replace the footbridge, should be arched so that it is not limited by the increased flow of the Bečva. The construction of the new footbridge in the area near the tennis courts is also included in the program statement of the Přerov coalition. The bridge is also expected to improve connectivity to the lagoon area. In addition to the U Tenisu footbridge, halfway through last year, the Přerov city council embarked on the long-planned construction of the new Tyrš Bridge over the Bečva River. This bridge also replaced a footbridge that was in poor condition. The investment will require more than 116 million crowns. The construction, which will last until spring 2012, will also include the repair of the approach in Brabansko Street. The new Tyrš Bridge will be wider than the existing footbridge. As a result, it will serve not only pedestrians and cyclists but also one-way drivers of vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons.
