Přerov - Residents of Přerov are expected to finally see the long-planned reconstruction of the Tyrš Bridge next year. The city leadership has already announced a public tender for the contractor for the new bridge, which will replace the current pedestrian footbridge, which is in poor condition. Work is expected to begin in October and be completed by the end of November 2010. According to information in the Public Procurement Information System, the construction will cost 120 million crowns excluding VAT. "The contract should be initiated by the end of October so that we can demolish the current footbridge before winter and start the construction of the new bridge in spring," said Deputy Mayor Josef Kulíšek (ODS) to ČTK. He added that the construction, including the modification of both approaches, should cost a total of 130 to 140 million crowns. "In the first phase, we will build the bridge and the approach on Brabansko, where the price including VAT should not exceed 120 million crowns. Of course, it will depend on the bids," noted Kulíšek. Přerov will finance the reconstruction of the bridge and the surrounding modifications mainly from its own sources. For example, last year, the council approved transferring 55 million crowns obtained from the sale of shares in cable television to this investment project. "We are looking for additional sources, trying to secure funds from the state budget or the transport infrastructure fund," the deputy mayor of Přerov explained. According to him, the current iron footbridge from 1964 does not meet aesthetic standards, and its technical condition is poor, with the potential for collapse in extreme cases. For instance, last winter, it had to be closed during an exhibition for swimmers for preventive reasons to avoid any injuries due to overloading. The new Tyrš Bridge, according to Kulíšek, should serve both pedestrians and cyclists and possibly allow one-way vehicle traffic. The bridge will be built according to the design of Prague's Architectural Office of Alena Šrámková. It is conceived as a promenade connecting the old town with the opposite bank. The bridge will be adorned with a statue of a bison and a bird, as well as concrete trees equipped with colored lights for night effects. The city hall also plans to modify the sidewalks and ramps in front of the bridge from the side of the Přerov Sokol house, as well as the entire square on the other side of the bridge, which is closer to the city center.
