Most - Unique transfer of a concrete bunker is being prepared for Monday by military historians. The fifty-ton object of light fortification from 1936 is set to leave the Šverma brown coal mine in Most and make its way to a museum in Lešany. Such a heavy bunker has never been moved in the past, said Andrej Halada from the Military Historical Institute to ČTK. The bunker, known as a "řopík," is unique also from a historical perspective. It was built as early as 1936, at the very beginning of the fortification work. Unlike later and much more famous řopíks, it is smaller and has a firing slit only facing forward. "Many of these objects stood on the defensive line in the area of northern Bohemia, near Most. Most of them were removed in the post-war period, especially in connection with mining activities," Halada stated. The moving bunker is therefore one of the last preserved. Enthusiasts around the portal Řopíky.net pointed out its existence, and the Military Historical Institute decided to save it for its museum. "The transportation cost is around 100,000 crowns including cranes; we also held a tender for it," Halada said. The bunker has the dimensions of a smaller living room, measuring 4.7 meters in length and 2.7 meters in width and height. Its fifty-ton weight also makes it the largest fortification ever transported, at least within Czech territory. "It is a completely unique operation, in addition to being at the greatest distance so far. In the past, one object was transported, but it was a significantly lighter training fortification that was moved in the area of the Jince military training ground, or rather to its edge to the local military museum," Halada added. The transport of the bunker is expected to start on Monday morning in the inaccessible areas of the Šverma brown coal mine in Most. It will gradually move along the highway to the Posázaví region. Between 14:00 and 16:00, it is expected to arrive in Lešany, where its ceremonial placement at the new location is being prepared.
