Prague – The Building Code Department of the Prague City Hall annulled the zoning decision for a new primary school that the city plans to build in Dolní Počernice based on an appeal by local residents. The request must now be reconsidered by the building authority of Prague 14. This was revealed by ČTK from the official bulletin of the city hall. According to the department, the main reason for the decision is the inconsistency of the construction with the zoning plan. The construction of the school has been in preparation by the city for several years, and it is supposed to have 18 classes and a capacity of 540 students.
The zoning decision was issued by the building authority of Prague 14 in November 2020 based on the request from the city hall from early 2018. However, a number of appeals were submitted by residents of Dolní Počernice, containing several mostly similar objections to the proposal. The department that deals with appeals on behalf of the state ultimately complied with them.
Officials identified the most significant problem as the inconsistency with the zoning plan, which, according to the document, was confirmed by the Ministry of Regional Development by revoking the original positive opinion. "The disagreement of the zoning planning authority with the proposed construction project causes the illegality of the reviewed zoning decision and is thus a reason for its annulment and return of the matter for new consideration," states the decision.
The Dolní Počernice municipality supported the construction of the school according to the published document and previous statements, as did the city hall. "New schools are definitely needed there," said Vít Šimral (Pirates), the outgoing city councilor for education. He added that the city is also planning to build another school in Dolní Počernice, in connection with the planned construction of hundreds of municipal rental apartments in the area.
The city hall plans several more new schools in the peripheral parts of the metropolis, which often struggle with a lack of places for students. Last September, the construction of a primary school in Šeberov began at a cost of approximately 477 million crowns. New schools are also planned to be built in Kolovraty, Uhříněves, and Komořany. Prague 9 is also constructing a school for about 700 students, and plans are in place for Prague 3, Prague 5, Prague 7, and Prague 8 as well.
