Prague - The Prague City Council will announce a public contract with an estimated value of 349 million crowns excluding VAT for the construction of a new elementary school in Šeberov. City representatives approved this today. The school, featuring 14 classrooms, a gymnasium, and an outdoor playground, is set to be built on a city-owned field between Šeberov and Hrnčíře. Construction is expected to start this year.
According to the approved document, the school is intended to provide missing spots for Šeberov and the surrounding areas, including Kunratice, where the city anticipates an increase in the number of children due to new construction. The project was prepared by the Šeberov town hall, and the school will be owned by the city after completion, which will also finance the construction.
The school will be designed so that it can be expanded from the original 14 to up to 27 classrooms if needed. The gymnasium will not only be intended for school purposes but also for the general public, as the city council notes that there is a lack of sports facilities in this area of Prague.
The shortage of places in schools and kindergartens is a problem, especially in the outskirts of the metropolis. The Březiněves municipality plans to start building a new school next year for 650 million crowns. According to previous information, the city council is also planning additional projects, for example, in Velká Chuchle, Kolovraty, or Dolní Počernice. Last year, a school was completed in Zličín, and the facility in Dolní Chabry is being expanded.
The Prague-Šeberov municipality is located on the southeastern edge of Prague and also includes the neighboring Hrnčíře. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, 3,309 residents lived there at the end of 2019, while approximately 10,000 residents were recorded in nearby Kunratice.
