Prague - The progress of the repair of Charles Bridge will allegedly be monitored by the heritage inspection. According to information from the Právo newspaper, the inspection criticizes the too rapid replacement of the original stone blocks with new ones. According to the newspaper, the inspection will thoroughly review all documentation.

"At least from an administrative standpoint, it seems that this is not well managed, so we have requested all documentation with the understanding that this is a monument of primary importance, so I expect that we will receive it promptly," said a source from the heritage inspection of the Ministry of Culture to Právo.
The biggest problem, according to the newspaper, appears to be the disposal of the original stone blocks of the bridge's railing. This is also criticized by people from the Club for Old Prague. Ondřej Šefců from the National Heritage Institute, which is responsible for Charles Bridge, defends the approach of the company carrying out the repairs: "There is no other option but to replace many stones; it is a matter of the fact that they are in much worse condition than we expected based on the survey," Šefců stated to Právo.
However, critics argue that the error lies precisely in the approach, which, according to information from Právo, may not have undergone any technological preparation at all. Experts were already disputing over the repair processes ten years ago when the bridge's reconstruction was being prepared.
Builders are now continuing with the reconstruction of Charles Bridge by repairing the upper part. The construction company Mott MacDonald is involved in the repairs, which began in August of last year. Charles Bridge is the second oldest preserved stone bridge in the Czech Republic. Construction was started by Emperor Charles IV in 1357 and was completed at the beginning of the 15th century.
