Prague - Prague is preparing to build a sports hall for gymnastics. The costs are expected to reach several tens of millions of crowns. This was stated today by the mayor's deputy Petr Dolínek (CSSD). The hall will be named after the seven-time Olympic champion Věra Čáslavská, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 74. The arena could be completed within three years. The exact location is not yet clear.

"The construction of the hall has been in preparation for some time, as there is a lack of a sports gymnasium in the capital. It will bear the name of Mrs. Čáslavská, whom I respected. I am very saddened by her passing,"
said Dolínek, who oversees sports.

The city hall is looking for a suitable plot of land to build the hall. "We want it to be able to host competitions and to have sufficient capacity for events of a world-class format," Dolínek said. According to him, it should be completed by 2019 at the latest. Subsequently, Prague will find a tenant for the arena.

The construction cost is not yet clear; it will depend both on the specific form of the project and on the outcome of the tender, in which the city will seek a construction company.
