Prague will build the Dvorecky Bridge. The city will announce a tender for 972 million CZK for construction

Prague – The Prague City Hall will build the Dvorecky Bridge, which will connect Prague 4 and 5. The city will now announce a tender for the construction worth 972 million crowns. The construction of the new bridge was approved today by Prague councilors. The bridge will serve trams, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians and is intended to improve the transport connection between the Zlíchov and Podolí banks of the Vltava River. Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr stated this week that construction could begin at the start of next year and be completed three years later. Some opposition councilors criticized today, for example, that cars will not be able to drive on the bridge.

The project for the bridge's construction is under the responsibility of the Tubes and Atelier6 studios based on the results of an architectural competition. The project price was set at 132.7 million crowns in the competition. Documentation is currently being finalized.

The design with cubist elements will bring improvements to transportation, especially public transport, as some routes will no longer have to travel through Podskalí and across the Palacký Bridge. The space under the bridge is to be used for leisure activities and a café. In the tender, not only the price will be evaluated, but also the length of the warranty period, the duration of construction, and the qualifications of the company.

The eastern exit of the bridge will be at Žluté lázně, north of Jeremenková street, while the western one will lead near the Lihovar tram stop, where a detour to the bridge has already been created. According to earlier city information, the documentation will also be expanded to include the triangular area between the Lihovar bus stop and Strakonická, which the original design did not address. In addition, the documentation will address a canoeing base that is at the location of the new bridge outlet in Podolí. It will be demolished, and the designers were tasked with proposing a replacement.

Some councilors criticized that cars will not be able to drive on the bridge. Among them was opposition councilor Václav Bílek (ANO). Member of Parliament and opposition councilor Patrik Nacher (ANO) criticized the price instead. "If we were in the coalition, we would get slapped for this from you," he said.

The most recent bridge over the Vltava in Prague, the Troja Bridge, was opened in October 2014. It replaced the Troja tram bridge from 1981, nicknamed "rámusák," whose operation was terminated on October 7, 2013. Last year, the city opened a new footbridge over the Vltava in Troja in place of the one that collapsed in 2017. The City Hall also recently announced a tender for the construction of another footbridge connecting Prague's Holešovice and Karlín. In the long term, there are plans for the construction of the Rohanský Bridge connecting Karlín and Holešovice. Many bridges over the Vltava are also in poor condition, and the city is gradually repairing them, currently, for example, the Barrandov Bridge.
