Prague - Construction of the planned Dvorecký Bridge, which will connect Prague 4 and 5, will begin on September 13 this year. In response to a query from ČTK, Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě) stated this today. According to earlier statements from city representatives, the construction should be completed around the turn of 2024 and 2025. The bridge over the Vltava River will serve trams, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians. It will be built by the companies Metrostav TBR, Strabag, and Firesta Fisher for 1.075 billion crowns.
"In addition to tramway development, Prague is experiencing a boom in bridge construction. In a few weeks, we will start building the Dvorecký Bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5. During one electoral term, we managed to obtain the fourth construction permit for bridges over the Vltava, with the Troja Footbridge completed, Štvanická being built, and Barrandov Bridge being repaired," said Scheinherr.
The eastern end of the bridge will be at Žluté lázně, north of Jeremenková Street, and the western end will be near the Lihovar tram stop. It will be 388 meters long and 16 meters wide. The construction includes both bridge approaches, including a footbridge for cyclists, retaining walls, and artistic works. The bridge will fill the missing connection for public transport, pedestrians, and cyclists between the banks of the Vltava River. The area under the bridge will also be modified according to the design by artist Kryštof Kintera.
The Dvorecký Bridge will be part of the so-called southern tram tangent, which will connect the routes leading from Barrandov and Modřany. It will improve the transfer between the transport hubs of Lihovar and Dvorce. Part of the bus lines that currently travel over the busy Barrandov Bridge will also use it. According to city leadership, changing the routes will improve bus transit between Novodvorská, Pankrác, and Smíchov.
The latest Prague bridge over the Vltava, the Troja Bridge, was opened in October 2014. It replaced the Troja tram bridge from 1981, nicknamed "Rámusák," whose operations ended on October 7, 2013. In 2020, the city opened a new footbridge over the Vltava in Troja to replace the one that collapsed in 2017. The city also started construction of the Štvanická Footbridge from Holešovice to Karlín this year. There are also talks about building the so-called Rohanský Bridge, which would connect Jateční Street in Prague 7 with Urxová Street in Prague 8. No decision has yet been made regarding its construction.
