Prague - Prague will purchase a plot of land in Písnice that it needs for the construction of metro line D from Pankrác to Písnice. The city will pay the private owner 5.8 million crowns for the parcel. This comes from material that was approved by Prague's city council today. In the future, there will be a parking lot and a technical building on the land. The construction of metro line D is intended to connect the city center with residential areas in the south and alleviate the overloaded line C.

Prague, along with the transport company (DPP), only needs part of the purchased land for the construction of the metro in this area. However, the owners refused such a sale as the remainder of the land would be unusable for them.

According to the document, a P+R (park & ride) parking lot will be built on the majority of the land in the future. A operational metro building will also be located there. The remaining part of the land will be used as support during the construction.

Prague and DPP have long struggled with the acquisition of land necessary for the construction of line D, and some parcels are still missing. The company aims to facilitate acquisitions by setting up a company formed together with one of the developers. The new company will not be bound by regulations that prohibit the city and DPP from purchasing land at prices higher than the estimated value. However, the company has not yet been established.

According to an earlier decision by the city, the first part of the new metro line will be the section from Pankrác to Olbrachtova. This section is the easiest for obtaining the necessary parcels. The first section will be followed by another part leading to the Nové Dvory station. According to previous statements from city management, this section could be completed in 2023. Subsequently, the metro will be extended to Písnice.

Driverless trains will run on the new line. The cost of metro line D is estimated at 50 billion crowns.
