Prague - The representatives of Prague 8 today agreed to commission an urban study for the development of Palmovka. The study will serve as a basis for a change in the zoning plan that will allow construction on the sites. The document will be prepared by the city council in cooperation with the city organization Institute of Planning and Development (IPR). The representatives discussed the commissioning of the study at the April meeting, but on the proposal of the opposition, its discussion was postponed at that time. Palmovka is among the so-called significant development centers and has been in poor condition for many years.
The study will address an area of 138 hectares around the Palmovka metro station on line B. According to the document discussed by the representatives, problems include the lack of regulations for the development of buildings and public spaces, poor water management, and certain parts of the area are outright neglected. There is also a lack of civic amenities.
The study will be presented to the public. According to Hřebík, IPR will place a container with its logo at Palmovka, where people will be able to learn about the plans. "Citizens not just of Prague 8 will have enough time to familiarize themselves with it and possibly suggest some changes," said councilor Tomáš Hřebík (TOP 09 and STAN).
In the western part of the area stands the unfinished Palmovka Center, where the city hall was supposed to have its new headquarters. Its construction was approved by Prague 8 in 2010, but it has not yet been completed, for example, due to disputes with builders. What will become of the building's shell remains unclear.
