PRAGUE - Prague 7 will restore the functionalist spaces of the original café on Milady Horákové Street. The project documentation for the construction and architectural modifications has already been commissioned, costing 290,000 crowns. After the reconstruction, the space will be rented out, the spokesperson for the city district, Helena Šmídová, informed ČTK today. The café with a coffee house has been in operation in building number 56 continuously since 1937, when the building was constructed. The architecturally valuable space is part of the heritage-protected Letná palace, designed by architect Evžen Rosenberg. Additionally, the café is the only preserved functionalist and simultaneously operational interior in the entire republic, stated Deputy Mayor Štěpán Hasal. The planned works will follow the recently completed reconstruction of the building's entrance portal. The area to be modified is over 200 square meters, spanning two floors. Necessary adjustments will include wall, ceiling, and floor surfaces, doors, stairways, railings, windows, sunshades, tiles, and fittings. Lighting fixtures will need to be addressed considering the design of the historical environment as well as the overall spatial and color arrangement. The project will also include documentation of original elements intended for restoration and design of new built-in furnishings. "By reconstructing the space and then renting it out, we will ensure that the historical interior is preserved," the deputy mayor stated. Following the proposal of architect Rosenberg, other functionalist buildings were constructed in Prague 7: on Antonínská, Letohradská, and Schnirchova Streets, at Orten Square, and on U Průhonu Street.
