Prague - Prague 6 plans to build a new treatment facility for long-term ill patients, which is expected to cost 180 million crowns. The building will be located on Drnovská Street near Václav Havel Airport. The facility will replace the current treatment center on Chittusiho Street, which is in unsatisfactory condition. This was stated by city hall spokesperson Adam Halmoši in response to a query from ČTK. The opposition disagrees with the plan.
According to the spokesperson, the city hall decided to relocate the facility to a new building because the current one is not in good shape and is also situated in the middle of private property. "Prague 6 has been unsuccessfully negotiating with the property owners adjacent to the treatment center since the 1990s," the spokesperson said.
Opposition council members from the Green Party consider the plan to move seniors to a noisy edge of Prague unsuitable. "I do not think relocating such a facility from the quiet center of Prague 6 to the intersection of Evropská Street and the Prague Ring Road near the airport is a wise idea," said councilor Antonín Nechvátal (SZ). The Greens also fear that the intention behind the new treatment facility is the city hall's plan to sell properties on Chittusiho Street and use the area for residential development. According to Nechvátal, the city hall has already requested a change in the zoning plan that would allow construction on the site of the former sanatorium.
Some plots on Drnovská Street are assigned to the district's ownership by the magistracy, while others are owned outright. The purchase of the latter for 9.5 million crowns was approved by the council last year. The new building will have 100 beds for long-term seriously ill people.
