Nový Jičín - Flood houses for residents affected by floods in the Nový Jičín region could possibly be established in three municipalities in the future - the hardest-hit Jeseník nad Odrou, Životic and Kunín. These are the municipalities with the highest number of demolitions, and several dozen people have been left without a roof over their heads. This emerged from today's meeting of the mayors of the affected municipalities with Governor Jaroslav Palas.

The mayors of the municipalities where this new construction could take place told journalists that while they have suitable land for the development, it will be necessary to connect it to utility services. Palas did not rule out the possibility that the region could assist with the investment in infrastructure. These costs could also be covered by European funds, which would, however, be administratively and time-wise very demanding. This money could likely be released no earlier than the beginning of next year.
"We will look for resources to... ensure that the construction can be initiated promptly. It will likely involve the aggregation of financial resources. We will put together these financial resources both from donations received by the region and from the region's own funds; that is also an option," Palas stated. He added that the region will also request funds from the Ministry for Regional Development.
According to Palas, the flood houses could, based on experiences from the 2002 floods, be constructed within a few months. "Some residents, when they receive contributions for materials, are prepared to build these family houses by themselves. For some, the state would probably have to help solve this," Palas noted.
The mayor of Kunín, Dagmar Novosadová, told journalists that as of today, the municipality is expecting 11 demolitions, of which eight buildings are inhabited. Thus, nearly twenty people would need new housing, as they are currently staying in accommodations or with relatives. "The municipality has a plot of about 6000 square meters, and the project documentation for the zoning proceeding is being completed, so we are essentially ready. If financing for connection to utilities and then for the construction of the houses is secured, the citizens could be housed by winter," Novosadová stated.
In Životic, eight buildings are currently slated for demolition, which means about 18 people will lose their housing. The condition of other buildings is being assessed as they are constructed from older materials, raising the question of whether it would be advantageous to repair them. "We have identified a location where alternative housing could possibly be built," Mayor Pavel Hasalík stated, adding that the municipality would appreciate financial support for land infrastructure.
Suitable plots for construction are also available in Jeseník nad Odrou. "Three to four years ago, we purchased plots totaling several hectares, we have prepared studies which, of course, have become outdated and are being revised. The plots were supposed to be roughly around 1100 square meters, but today we are significantly more modest, so we will likely be subdividing land around 600 to 700 square meters," stated Mayor Tomáš Machýček, noting that the plots need to be connected to utility services. About 30 people in the municipality currently lack permanent housing.
In summary, the mayors have reported a total of 36 complete demolitions and five partial demolitions as of today, with several other houses still under observation.
