Prague - The expert jury has selected 15 buildings in Czech territory, from which the Building of the Year 2016 will be chosen at the ceremonial evening on October 13. Among the nominees are, for example, the Blanka tunnel complex, the reconstruction of Kuks, the research center in Dolní Břežany, the Sky Walk in Dolní Morava, or the modernization of the railway line Tábor - Sudoměřice. CTK was informed about this today by the organizers from the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction.Bogle Architects: International Research Laser Center ELI, Dolní Břežany
"A feature of this year is the very diverse character of the buildings, a great variety in their size, and the significant emergence of the BIM (Building Information Modeling) system, which was used for more than 20 percent of the buildings," said the chairman of the board of the foundation, Jan Fibiger. BIM is a digital model that serves as a database of information about the project throughout its entire life cycle, even to the time of its use.
"For this reason, for the first time this year, there will be three special nominations announced, one of which will be a Special Prize for the use of BIM in the preparation and implementation of buildings. Three nominations will also be announced for foreign buildings that represent a high level of Czech craftsmanship abroad," he added.
All nominated buildings are on the website stavbaroku.cz. People can vote there for the Public Prize until October 13.
In last year's edition, the jury awarded the Comenius Bridge in Jaroměř, the extension of the elementary school in Dobřichovice, the underground complex at the Old Town Square in Mladá Boleslav, the superstructure of the Bolt Tower blast furnace in Ostrava, and the restoration of buildings in the Důl Hlubina premises there.
