Polička - This year, Polička in the Svitavy region will renovate the historic riveted bridge, which is a protected monument. During the repairs, it will be closed. An alternative route across the river will lead via a nearby footbridge, announced city spokesperson Naděžda Šauerová.
The bridge dates back to 1901 and has been a cultural monument since last year. For a longer period, it has shown structural damage. For safety reasons, the city has provided it with a supporting structure. "The total estimated costs for the reconstruction amount to 7.5 million crowns, with one million provided by a grant from the Ministry of Culture," said Šauerová.
The bridge was originally intended for road traffic. It is now only for pedestrians. According to the manufacturer's label, the bridge was produced in 1901 by the Prague Bridge Factory, a branch of the First Czech-Moravian Machine Factory in Prague, later known as ČKD. The bridge measures 20 meters in length and its width is over four meters. It has become a significant element of the city, connecting the old part of Polička with the new urban district behind the Synský pond.
