Brno - The General Financial Directorate has waived three-quarters of the fine of 1.9 billion crowns imposed on the Regional Court in Brno due to errors in the construction of the new judicial complex in Brno. The court is now required to pay 480 million crowns, its spokesperson Miroslava Sedláčková said today. The court management disagrees with this decision, considering the sanction unconstitutional. The decision is not yet enforceable, and the regional court does not have to address the issue of where to obtain hundreds of millions. The matter was approached in two ways: first, the General Financial Directorate was requested to waive the fine, while a second administrative lawsuit was filed. The Regional Court in Hradec Králové will deal with it. The lawsuit is aimed at the decision of the Financial Office in Brno, which imposed the sanction of 1.9 billion crowns on the court. The Hradec court granted the lawsuit a suspensive effect. The Regional Court in Brno is therefore awaiting its verdict. The amount of two billion crowns represents all costs associated with the construction of the new judicial complex in Brno, which houses the Municipal Court of Brno and the Brno Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the District Court Brno-Country and the local prosecutor's office. The Financial Office discovered administrative errors related to the construction of the complex. According to them, the regional court did not proceed correctly during the project and should therefore return the state-allocated funds. However, the judicial complex stands and has been fully operational for some time. One of the people who managed the financing of the construction was the economist of the regional court, Jan Lippert. According to him, the errors included, for example, incorrect payment deadlines on invoices, which conflicted with what the state required at the time. However, Lippert insists that the errors were merely formal.
