Brno - In Brno, the construction of a new headquarters for the Supreme Court and the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office, planned for many years, is expected to start next year. This was announced to journalists today by Minister of Justice Marie Benešová. According to her, the project is necessary because both institutions currently occupy cramped spaces and must make use of very disadvantageous rentals.

"There is a (construction) project that was created in the past and which needs to be pushed forward so that the ineffective rentals can be eliminated," said Benešová. She also discussed the necessity of building a new facility today with the chairwoman of the Supreme Court, Iva Brožová.
Benešová emphasized that, in terms of investments, the project for the Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem has the highest priority for the Ministry of Justice, as it has already been flooded three times. Immediately after that, the new judicial palace in Brno should be addressed.
It will be a project worth many millions of crowns, and Benešová will have to negotiate the release of funds for it when preparing the state budget for 2014 with Finance Minister Jan Fischer.
The Supreme Court is located in Burešova and the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office is on Jezuitská Street. Although both institutions are expected to share one building in the future, it will be divided into two separate parts. "The goal is to avoid the impression that justice is being arranged somewhere in the hallways," stated Brožová.
She emphasized that the rental of office spaces is disadvantageous and, in her opinion, it may raise questions about the impartiality of the legal institutions that could face eviction from their leases.
Where exactly the new facility could be located and what the budget for its anticipated construction is, is not yet known.
However, Brno has already previously dealt with a project for a new judicial palace for the Municipal Court of Brno, the District Court of Brno-venkov, and the public prosecutor's office. The building is located on Polní Street. It was originally expected that the project would cost 800 million crowns, but after adjustments, the cost nearly reached two billion. There are disputes about whether this project was overpriced.
