Bílovec (Novojičínsko) - After a three-year renovation, the Museum in Bílovec in the Novojičínsko region has reopened today. The renovation of the museum, which will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year, cost almost 20 million crowns, most of which was covered by subsidies. In addition to exhibits, there will also be a tourist information center in the museum. This was reported by Bílovec Mayor Petr Klimek. The renovation primarily focused on the maintenance of the museum building, which has been on the list of protected immovable cultural monuments since 1958. It was mainly damaged by humidity in the attic and wood rot. "The latest installations will bring a new arrangement of exhibits on the history of the town of Bílovec, textile production, the Sedlnice Castle, the administration of the Bílovec estate, and an exhibition on the production of the former Salcher factory, later Massag," Klimek said. The exhibitions will be complemented by audiovisual technology. The museum building also has an exhibition and lecture hall. The museum is located in a baroque town house with a mansard roof from 1767 to 1769. The house on Zámecká Street was originally the seat of the administrative building of the Sedlnice estate. Klimek noted that the collections, which people first saw in 1920 in the Sedlnice Castle, were gathered over 20 years by teachers Franz Wolf and Leo Benzig. In 1925, the exhibits were moved to the building where the museum is located today. In 1963, the Bílovec Museum became part of the District Museum of Novojičínsko, which is now succeeded by the current Museum of Novojičínsko.
