Helika is also behind the urban study of Ostrava's Karolina for the company MULTI Development. This study won a development competition, which the Czech Chamber of Architects twice labeled as an irregular architectural competition. (editor's note)
Plzeň - The project documentation for the new building of the Plzeň theater on Jízdecká Street will be ensured by the company Helika, which has also designed a new basilica for the capital of Gabon in Africa. For the Plzeň project, it will work with the company Ingem. In competition with two other bidders, they offered the lowest price, providing the documents for the zoning decision and building permit for 40 million crowns excluding VAT. They promised to complete the contract within the required timeframe, that is, by the end of September 2010. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Marcela Krejsová (ODS). "We received a total of three bids, the most significant criterion was price, another criterion was time," she stated. Helika included in the price of 40 million excluding VAT also the settlement of copyright with the Portuguese office that designed the new theater. The other two participants in the proceedings had higher bids, by eight million and 18 million crowns, respectively. One of the bidders also failed to provide references for projects younger than three years, while the other did not meet the required deadline. The winning Helika has participated in projects in the Czech Republic such as Sazka Arena, Chodov Center, the judicial complex in Na Míčánkách in Prague 10, and others. Among the reference projects of Ingem are the construction of apartments Pod Záhorskem in Plzeň, the construction of apartments Jižní svahy in Vejprnice, several houses with caretaker services, and more. After the project is completed, the city will begin the selection of the construction contractor, which is expected at the turn of 2010 and 2011. The new theater, which will become a modern Plzeň building of the 21st century, will be located at the former exhibition grounds in the area between Palackého and Jízdecká Streets, between the Plaza shopping center and the main post office. The area designated for the building is about 8,000 square meters. The main hall will have a capacity of 500 spectators, and a variable stage for another 200 people is also planned. Estimated costs are around 500 to 600 million crowns. The city intends to obtain part of the funding through a competition for the European Capital of Culture for the year 2015.
