Plzeň - Plzeň is preparing to reconstruct another interior by the renowned world architect Adolf Loos. The city hall's focus is on the apartment located at Bendova 10, near the historical center. Although the interior created by the famous architect is relatively well-preserved, it requires revitalization. Experts are currently preparing project documentation. No decision has yet been made regarding the use of the reconstructed space, said Mayor Martin Baxa (ODS) to ČTK. "The revitalization of Loos interiors is, of course, a significant priority for our city. Adolf Loos, a world-famous figure, has several projects in the area of Plzeň. The apartment at Bendova Street number 10 is owned by the city, and project documentation for its reconstruction is currently being prepared," he stated. According to Baxa, it is a complex process, where heritage conservators have a decisive say. Once the material is ready, the city hall will begin seeking funds for the preservation of the valuable interior. "I will personally advocate for funds to be found," added the mayor. He has not yet estimated how much the renovations might cost. The city has not yet decided on the use of the building. Given that it is an apartment, it would be challenging to accommodate, for example, the headquarters of a company there. "We will look for a use," Baxa added. The owners of the apartment, on which the residential architect Norbert Krieger collaborated with Loos, were the couple Vilém and Gertruda Kraus. Like many other owners of apartments designed by Loos, they faced a turbulent fate with the onset of World War II. Merchant Vilém left for England in 1939, where he lived even after the war; his wife and children perished in extermination camps. The Germans confiscated the house, which was returned to Vilém in 1946, but starting in 1954, it was under national administration on the grounds that the owner was not caring for the property. Plzeň acquired it from the state in 1994. Plzeň is striving for a gradual revitalization of Loos interiors within the city. For example, the rescue of the interior at Klatovská 12, which houses the Administration of Public Property of the City of Plzeň, is largely completed. A project for the reconstruction of the building at Klatovská 110 has been initiated, which will serve the West Bohemian Gallery. According to city hall spokeswoman Zdeňka Kubalová, the city is preparing to open several Loos interiors to the public in April.
