Písek - The footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists across the Otava River, designed for Písek by architect Josef Pleskot, will cost 33 million crowns. The city has now selected a construction contractor, with the company Metrostav succeeding in the tender. Písek expects that the footbridge leading from the Hradiště area to the city center will be completed by May next year. The councilors decided on the selection of the company that will build the bridge at their meeting.

"About a quarter of the financial resources for the construction are included in this year's budget; the remaining costs will be claimed in the city budget for next year. We will also try to obtain grant funding if possible. This month we submitted an application to the Integrated Regional Operational Program," said Václav Filip from the investment and development department of the Písek city hall. He added that the originally estimated costs for the project were 35 million crowns.

Pleskot's design for the footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists across the Otava dates back to 2014. The light steel structure will be located where there used to be a ford and where a bridge was already planned in the 1930s.

The construction of the footbridge will complete the first phase of building the cycling path connecting the Hradiště area with the Václavské Předměstí area, the city center, and the northern industrial zone. "Alongside the footbridge, a part of the cycle path and sidewalk leading around the sports facilities to the Cadillac hotel and along the right bank around Jitex will also be constructed and upgraded, with a total length of 1473 meters. Thus, in spring, the route to the city center from Hradiště and Václav will be more pleasant and safer for both pedestrians and cyclists," added Písek's deputy mayor Josef Knot (TOP 09).
