Písek - Písek has completed the construction of a library and education center after nearly two years. The project, which cost 139 million crowns excluding tax, will open to the public in April. The city now has to move over 100,000 publications into the library. Irena Malotová, a spokesperson for the Písek city hall, told ČTK.

According to city officials, the new building, which was constructed in place of a former school on Alšovo náměstí, has the necessary modern elements. "More and more, these are places for mutual meetings, offering a wide range of information and ways to access it. It is essential today to have an interesting program for the self-development of people of all age groups, along with corresponding facilities. Our users will have access to a multifunctional educational hall, an outdoor stage, a relaxation zone, and modern classrooms for both group and individual teaching,” said library director Roman Dub.

According to Mayor Eva Vanžurová (South Bohemians 2012), the library will become one of the most original buildings of its kind in the country. "Residents of Písek really have something to look forward to. So far, we had one of the oldest public city libraries in Bohemia. Our new library will be among the most modern and certainly one of the most beautiful. Life will return in spring to the monument-protected building, which has been unused and deteriorating for years,” she stated.
