Ljubljana - This year's Piranesi Prize, intended for Central European architects, was awarded to the Austrian studio Marte.Marte for their project of a concrete bridge in the town of Lorüns. One of the student awards was won by Michael Lammer from the university in Graz, who impressed the jury with his design for a congress center in Terezín.

The Piranesi Prize is regularly awarded to buildings from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Greece, Slovakia, and Slovenia. This year, 36 completed projects made it to the shortlist.
The winner convinced the judges with simplicity and technique of execution. The bridge in the valley in Vorarlberg, Austria is, in their opinion, "architecture with a sensitive relationship to the landscape", which, while reminiscent of the construction of historical railway bridges, is nonetheless highly contemporary.
An honorable mention was awarded to the Italian studio Magnani Pelzel Map for the reconstruction of a historical tower in Venice.
Among student works, the aforementioned Michael Lammer stood out, designing a congress center with a lecture hall for the city of Terezín. The jury also praised his colleague Stefan Jose, who came up with a proposal for a multifunctional stage intended for the center of Berlin.
The Piranesi Prize has been awarded since 1989 in the Slovenian coastal town of Piran. It is named after the famous Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi, whose family hailed from Piran. In previous years, some Czech buildings have also been successful. For example, in 2004, the main prize was awarded to Josef Pleskot for his project of the Czech consulate in Munich. In 2001, the studio HŠH received an honorable mention for their proposal for the reconstruction of Upper Square in Olomouc.
