Chrudim – The Pardubice Region is preparing a demanding renovation of the historic façade of the Josef Ressel Gymnasium in Chrudim. The costs are estimated at 43 million crowns. The plaster areas on the massive building are very extensive and contain many relief elements. Martin Kiss, the head of the education department at the regional office, informed ČTK of this. The regional council will pay for the repairs from its budget, which are expected to take place next year. In the future, it also intends to modernize specialized classrooms with the use of European subsidies.

"It is a historical building that, although not a listed monument, we want to preserve the original feel. We consider it one of the dominant buildings in Chrudim," Kiss stated. The Pardubice Region has previously had the windows repaired; the historical character of the building is respected on the front and sides.

The neo-Renaissance building was originally commissioned by the Congregation of the School Sisters of St. Francis for their teaching institute in 1898. In 2000, it was purchased by the state and subsequently taken over by the region. The building still bears signs of its original purpose, with the former chapel serving as a gymnasium.
