Prague - Almost after seven decades, the Memorial of National Literature is now operating at a new address, which will primarily use the name Museum of Literature for its exhibitions. The institution, which has been located in Strahov Monastery since the 1950s, has completed its move to the reconstructed Petschkův villa in Bubenč. Today at 18:00, several exhibition openings will welcome the public, and entry to the museum will be free until October 23, offering many programs for both adults and children.

The Bubenč villa has been undergoing reconstruction since 2017. The new exhibitions will feature almost a thousand exhibits in ten halls. The museum will also include a café, a program hall, a reading room, professional workplaces, and an extensive garden.

For several decades, the memorial was located in Strahov Monastery. It was established in the 1950s after the communist regime forced the Premonstratensians to leave Strahov Monastery. In 1952, the Memorial of National Culture was founded there, which took over the Strahov Monastery, including the funds of its library and the funds of the monastic libraries.

The Memorial of National Literature (PNP) as a museum of Czech literature was created in 1953. In the early 1990s, the monastery was returned to the order, and the memorial remained in small premises. Since then, a new location for the institution has been sought.

The PNP also includes the Summer Palace Hvězda, the Small Villa on Pelléova Street, the Czech-French Cultural Center Petrkov, and the Central Depository in Litoměřice.
