Lednice (Břeclavsko) - Heritage conservators will repair six bridges in the park of the Lednice Castle in Břeclav by March next year. These bridges lead over the Castle Pond to the popular viewing tower Minaret. On the over one hundred-year-old bridges, the longest of which are more than 30 meters long, workers will replace the wooden beams, said the curator Ivana Holásková today to ČTK.

The work will cost three million crowns and will be covered by the heritage institute. The park of the Lednice Castle not only consists of rare trees but also numerous historical buildings. These are so-called "salets," constructed to beautify the area. The park is visited by 1.5 million people annually. Entry is year-round and free. One of the most significant salets in this area is the sixty-meter-tall viewing tower Minaret.
It is located about a kilometer from the castle. Tourists can reach it via the Castle Pond, which has numerous islets. During their walk, they must cross six bridges, three of which are between 20 and 30 meters long, with beams forming the walking surface.
"Some of them are loose and significantly rotten from below. We had to close the path to the Minaret over the pond and we will replace all the beams. We will finish everything by spring next year, before the park gets filled with hundreds of visitors again,” added the curator.
The Lednice Castle, together with the park, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. The castle is the most visited monument in Moravia. This year, it was visited by over 373,000 tourists, which is 42,000 more than last year.
