Brno - A virtual walk through the most important monuments in the city is now offered by the new website of Brno. People can view, for example, the landmarks of the historic center, Špilberk Castle, and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov, as well as Tugendhat Villa and the Brno Exhibition Center. The main goal of the project is to attract tourists to the city. Brno Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) said this to journalists today.

"I hope that those who have never been here may be tempted by the virtual tour of our greatest monuments to come and visit us," said Onderka.
The website www.virtual.brno.cz offers about twenty monuments and the most interesting tourist sites. Most places provide views from multiple cameras. These include streets like Česká, Moravské náměstí, and the Měnín Gate on Orlí Street.
The cameras capture images with a range of 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically. In addition to the visual tour of the monuments, the system also offers text and spoken information in four world languages.
The virtual tour cost 1.8 million crowns, of which 1.7 million was obtained by the city from the European Union. Similar services are also offered by other Czech cities and regions. For example, the Prague City Hall is offering a virtual tour this year that originally featured views from a hundred towers, along with images of squares and bridges over the Vltava River.
