Ostrov - The city of Ostrov has already approved the first grants for property owners in the historical center of the city who have renovated their façades. Successful applicants renewed them last year and will share nearly 80,000 crowns. In total, Ostrov has budgeted 600,000 crowns for a new grant title this year, Mayor Pavel Čekan told ČTK today.

"At its last meeting, the city council approved a grant contract for two applicants directly on Staré náměstí in Ostrov. They met all grant conditions and applied for funding to renew their façades," said Čekan. Originally middle-class row houses underwent renovations that resulted in new smooth three-axial façades adorned only with a simple cornice.

The contribution may pertain to about 40 buildings in the historical core of the city. Their owners can receive 1,100 crowns per square meter, but no more than two-fifths of the total costs. The reconstruction must be carried out by the owner or co-owner of the house, and applications for the grant can be submitted up to 12 months retroactively. Conversely, the funds are not intended for insulation of houses or for the replacement of roofs, windows, or doors.

Ostrov wants to encourage owners to enhance especially the visible façades, for example, on Staré náměstí, following the model of Cheb or Jáchymov. The program is prepared for five years, and this year, applications can be submitted until November 15.
