Ostrava - Ostrava wants to establish a special fund to which money will be allocated for the planned construction of a concert hall, which is expected to cost more than a billion crowns. This year, the city plans to contribute at least 100 million crowns to the fund, Mayor Tomáš Macura (ANO) told journalists today.
"We have long declared that one of our biggest goals in the field of culture is to build a new concert hall, a full-fledged hall with top-notch acoustics," Macura stated.
The concert hall will be an extension of the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava, the seat of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava. The construction of the hall also includes its renovation. The city wanted to agree on cooperation with the region and the Ministry of Culture in financing it, with whom, according to the mayor, it planned to sign a memorandum of cooperation. However, they have not yet reached an agreement with the ministry and want to prepare for the possibility that they might have to finance the hall without state assistance. "We still believe that it will be possible to pool resources not only from the city but also from the region and the state for this construction. We do not want to delay the decision-making and preparation of the hall by waiting for a new government, so we have decided to actively enter into this process. The first step is for the city to create a new designated fund for the construction of the concert hall," Macura said. At least 100 million crowns should flow into the fund each year. The city already has a similar fund for the City Hospital of Ostrava, from which money is drawn for necessary investments.
