Milíkov - The Cheb Regional Museum is completing the renovation of the historic farmstead in Milíkov. It will be presented to the public in September as part of the European Heritage Days. The renovation of the timber-framed farmstead took nearly three years and focused mainly on preserving the original elements. Upon completion, there will be a new exhibition here, informed the regional councilor for culture and heritage care, Oľga Haláková.

"We consider the timber-framed farmstead in Milíkov to be a very valuable architectural monument that embodies typical features of folk architecture in the Cheb region. The spaces of the homestead will serve as an exhibition and will introduce visitors not only to the way of life on the farm and small-scale crafts, but will also focus on the remembrance of folk culture and Cheb folklore," Haláková stated.

Work on the farmstead was divided into several phases. In the first phase, the barn was repaired, followed by the shed. In 2017, the property was closed to the public, and construction modifications began on the residential building and the small house in the places of the original separate pigsties, which will serve as a ticket office. At the same time, a new building with toilets for visitors was constructed. The construction modifications of the residential part concentrated to the maximum extent on preserving the remaining wooden elements of the original log construction and timber framing. Sections that could no longer be preserved were replaced with new ones. The builders fully respected the original working procedures during their work.

Renovations, which strictly adhered to the original internal layout of the building, also took place in the interior. Visitors will find exhibition spaces in the residential house, shed, and barn. The entire farmstead area will offer an insight into the life of a rural estate in the Cheb region at the end of the 19th century and in the first third of the 20th century. The land has also undergone transformation, with the planting of new trees and shrubs, and behind the barn, visitors will find two sown and planted fields. A typical front garden was created in front of the residential building. The reconstruction project for the entire area, costing approximately 25 million crowns, was funded by European grants and resources from the Karlovy Vary Region.
