Prague – The reconstruction of the ground floor of the Old Town Hall in Prague will cost the capital city 29.98 million CZK. The interiors, including the floors, will be repaired in the building, and the contract also includes the renewal of installations. According to previous information, the repairs will involve plasterwork, stucco, and painting, with lime plaster mixtures and lime coatings used in all areas. The floor tiles will be refurbished. The windows and doors on both the southern and northern sides are not original but period-appropriate, and therefore they will be replaced with new ones. The technological equipment and installations will also be renewed.
After the modifications, tourists will be divided into two streams. To the left, they will head to tourist information, which will be equipped with digital information boards. On the right side will be a corridor through which visitors will pass to the upper floors, to the tower, the historical basement, and the restrooms.
The Old Town Hall was established in 1338 as the seat of the self-government of the Old Town. It consists of a complex of several buildings, one wing of the town hall was destroyed by fire at the end of World War II. The town hall includes the astronomical clock, which was completely renovated last year.
