Prague - A unique cubist wall of the cemetery in Ďáblice is set for restoration. Work will begin in August and last until October. It will cost 19.3 million crowns. In an interview with ČTK, Martin Červený, the director of Prague cemeteries, said this. Ďáblice Cemetery is the second largest cemetery in Prague and according to Červený, the only cubist cemetery in the world.

The boundary wall is compromised by cracks, which allow water to seep in, and the effects of water and frost are leading the structure to decay. Additionally, invasive vegetation disrupts the stability. The wall has never been repaired before.

"The need for repairs to the robust reinforced concrete wall was previously underestimated, as it probably seemed that the concrete would last forever,"
stated Červený. "However, with further delays, there would be an imminent threat to this architectural gem," he added.

The cemetery is a cultural monument. Part of the burial site with shaft graves of victims of communism may be declared a national cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture. The cemetery was last mentioned in 2014 in connection with the exhumation of Father Josef Toufar, who became a victim of the communist persecution of the Catholic Church in former Czechoslovakia.
