Lednice (Břeclavsko) - The repair of the facades of the castle in Lednice, Břeclav region, will cost 132 million crowns. This follows from the selection procedure that ended today, in which 12 companies participated. Petr Kroupa, appointed to lead the Heritage Institute in Brno, told ČTK. The current amount is 70 million crowns lower than the original. Lednice Castle is one of the most visited monuments in the Czech Republic. The repair of its facades will be one of the most expensive projects in the history of heritage care in the Czech Republic. "We obviously chose the lowest amount. I will not reveal the name of the company yet. We must first inform the participants of the procedure about the results," Kroupa stated. Heritage conservationists had previously set 185 million crowns as the maximum amount that could be paid for the restoration of the facades before announcing the procedure. All companies submitted lower bids. The repair of the facades of Lednice Castle is one of the longest debated and most controversial heritage projects. In the past, a contractor for these extensive renovations had already been selected. The cost of the work was then calculated at 202 million crowns. However, the result of the selection procedure was canceled due to disproportionately high costs. This way, an amount was saved, which was used years ago to reconstruct the facade of the baroque castle in Vranov. The facades of Lednice Castle are in a deplorable state. Some parts resemble a construction site and are fenced off for the safety of tourists. Construction work will begin within a month. Lednice Castle has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
