Olomouc - Lovers of water attractions can start visiting the new Olomouc aquapark from today. The complex with indoor and outdoor attractions has been built by the city hall together with an association of private companies in the area of Pod Vlachovým, near the main road to Brno. Construction began in 2007 and cost 497 million crowns. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Martin Major (ODS) to ČTK. Visitors to the aquapark will find, for example, a massage pool, spacebowl, slide, flow channel, and massage benches in the covered part of the complex. The outdoor section includes a recreational pool, swimming pool, children's pool, waterfall, and another slide. The area also includes a restaurant, solarium, and sauna. For 90 minutes of stay in the indoor part of the aquapark on weekdays until 14:00, adults pay a basic admission fee of 100 crowns. From 14:00 onwards and during weekends and holidays, adults will pay 130 crowns for an hour and a half stay in the indoor area. A full-day stay in the outdoor part of the facility costs adults 150 crowns. "According to our analysis, our admission prices are comparable to similar facilities in the Czech Republic," said the aquapark director Dalibor Přikryl to journalists. He added that the capacity of the indoor area is 413 people. The outdoor area is expected to accommodate up to 1500 visitors. The management of the aquapark anticipates an annual attendance of approximately 300,000 people. Water attraction enthusiasts can visit the indoor area on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 08:00 to 22:00, on Tuesday and Thursday from 07:00 to 22:00, and on weekends from 09:00 to 22:00. The outdoor section will be open daily during the holidays from 09:00 to 19:00, and outside the main season from 10:00 to 18:00. The aquapark has 48 permanent employees who take care of the operations of the facility and the gastronomic part. "To strengthen the summer season, we count on about 15 seasonal workers," Přikryl stated. The water attraction complex was built by the city in cooperation with Atzwanger, Gemo, and Skanska. In the joint company that owns the facility, the city holds 45 percent of the shares. The remaining shares will be purchased from the companies within ten years. The city hall will subsidize the aquapark's operation, with the so-called service charge for partial coverage of operating costs amounting to approximately 30 million crowns annually. The first mention of the plan to build the Olomouc aquapark appeared as early as the autumn of 2002 in the program statement of the council coalition that governed the city hall from 2002 to 2006. The intention to build a water attraction center sparked mixed reactions in the city. In 2005, two petitions were created because of it: one signed by people who opposed the city funding the construction from its own resources, and the other by supporters of the aquapark.
