OLOMOUC - Experts have already completed the exhibition concept at the Archdiocesan Museum, which will be ceremoniously opened in Olomouc on June 1. Visitors will be offered a tour of the best exhibits of visual arts that have been created over hundreds of years across the territory of Moravia, as well as the collections of Olomouc bishops and archbishops. "The exhibition concept is prepared. By the end of April, the building modifications should be completed, and at the beginning of May, the installation of the exhibition will commence," said Pavel Vysloužil, spokesperson for the Archdiocesan Museum of Olomouc, to ČTK today. In addition to one of the highest quality Central European collections of old painting, the Archdiocesan Museum will allow its visitors to view examples of Gothic and Baroque sculpture, collections of ivory works, the famous coach of Bishop Troyer, liturgical items, and mass textiles. The long-term exhibition will present a selection of works by many painters, sculptors, illuminators, and artisan craftsmen from across Europe. A unique museum will be established in part of the former Přemyslid Palace, which has been undergoing renovation since 1999. The reconstruction will cost approximately 250 million crowns. The area of the national cultural monument is a testament to a thousand years of architectural development - from the remains of the princely palace through the peak Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance stages to the late Baroque and Rococo interiors. It thus represents a unique exhibit in itself. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum will offer spaces for temporary exhibitions, educational activities, and a multipurpose hall. The establishment of the museum was initiated by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Olomouc in 1995. Two years later, the Ministry of Culture and the Archdiocese of Olomouc reached an agreement, based on which the Museum of Art Olomouc was entrusted with the construction and operation of the new cultural facility. The church provided the building and collections, while the state committed to cover the reconstruction and operation costs. The Olomouc Region is negotiating the transfer of the Museum of Art, including the Archdiocesan Museum, to the state. It is a supra-regional institution that the region cannot financially support.
