Zlín – The local library of the municipality of Halenkovice in the Zlín region, which was named Library of the Year 2023 on Thursday, has been operating for two years in new premises, where regional themes are also emphasized. Last year, the library hosted around forty events, including chess and checkers lessons, as well as country music singing classes. Gabriel Winklerová, spokesperson for the František Bartoš Regional Library in Zlín, informed ČTK.
The library in Halenkovice, with about two thousand inhabitants, received the award for creating an architecturally timeless library space with sensitively integrated elements of local history, as well as for the personal approach of the librarian in transforming the library into a vibrant community center.
The author of the new library space is architect and local native Zuzana Šalášková. In designing the interior, she collaborated with the librarian and the local administration. The interior features regional elements, such as a relief of the municipality on the front panel of the desk and an imprint of the municipality's historical seal in the design floor. The library spaces are barrier-free. The library offers courses in 3D printing, English, and organizes courses for seniors under the Wise Owl project.
Out of the 2000 inhabitants of the municipality, 320 readers are registered at the library, and it is visited by over 2500 visitors each year. The library has nearly 8000 titles in its collection and registers nearly 5500 loans annually.
