Ústí nad Orlicí - The restoration of the park by the Roškot Theater in Ústí nad Orlicí, which is a national cultural monument, will be completed in the spring of next year. Despite initial difficulties, the schedule is being adhered to. Deputy Mayor Jiří Preclík (Ústí lives) told ČTK. The investment will cost nearly 70 million crowns.

"At the beginning, we had a slight delay because it took time to clarify the cladding materials, such as the cladding bricks, so it took longer. The heritage conservationists commented on this, samples were made, and the work is already underway as it should," said Preclík.

The area around the theater is intended for versatile use; there will be a children's playground, an amphitheater for smaller cultural events, a viewing terrace, a café, a covered pergola, a water feature, and a small building for restrooms. There will be a new road network, areas for sitting or playing and exercising, said the deputy mayor.

"For the café or restaurant, we have contacted various operators to see the place. The city will prepare the rental conditions and will select the operator. There is a demolished annex where the storages were, the space for the operation has decreased," said Preclík.

The city has been considering the modification of the area around the theater since the 1990s. Other investments took priority. The entire modification was preceded in 2023 by the demolition of Jander's villa from 1911, which bothered some councilors and the public. The building was not protected as a monument. The assessment from the heritage conservationists stated that the building had no architectural value.

Additionally, it was necessary at the end of last year to cut down about 40 trees. According to experts, 60 percent of the trees in the park were not viable, as their tree structure was compromised. To replace the felled trees, the city will plant 30 deciduous trees, over 1,400 bushes, more than 1,300 perennials, and bulbous plants.
