Ústí nad Orlicí

Ústí nad Orlicí – The city of Ústí nad Orlicí is beginning the restoration of the park by the Roškot Theatre, which is a national cultural monument. There will be a viewing terrace and an amphitheater. The city hall has been planning the revitalization of the area since 1990, but previous proposals were not realized. It will invest nearly 68 million crowns, Mayor Petr Hájek (Oušťáci) stated in a press release.

The park is set to become a place for socializing, relaxation, as well as a venue for exhibitions, theatrical performances, and concerts. The space is divided into areas for leisure, seating, games, and exercise. The park will feature an amphitheater, a covered pergola, and a water element. There will be play elements for children. A new road network, public and park lighting, and a small restroom facility will be built.

Preparations took a long time, with the first proposal dating back to 1990. "I am not ashamed of the fact that I am a veteran at the Ústí city hall. Therefore, I can specify that the first proposal for a possible solution was already developed in 1990, but at that time, different investments were required. After a ten-year hiatus, a different proposal was on the table in 2001, but it was never realized. In 2012 and 2015, additional variants were developed, but it was only the architectural study from 2018 that gained support and was developed into an executable project," said the mayor.

According to him, the investment preparation was not easy. The project had to be developed with regard to the Roškot Theatre, which is protected as a monument. The city also decided to demolish the Jander villa from 1911, against which a petition was created. The demolition was thus delayed. However, according to the city, the building has no architectural value. This was confirmed by the assessment of conservationists. The city leadership then waited for the results of the municipal elections before proceeding with the demolition.

"The preparation was affected by COVID and last year's municipal elections. Legal deadlines extended the tender for the construction contractor by almost four months. The contracted price is nearly 68 million crowns, and the construction work will be completed in the spring of 2025," said the mayor.
