On April 10, 2008, the first members' meeting of The Civic Association for Beautiful Olomouc (hereinafter referred to as the Association) took place. People who care about the fate and appearance of the city of Olomouc, shaped over nearly a thousand years of historical and heritage development, gathered in the association. A number of citizens attended the first meeting, almost thirty of whom immediately became members of the Association.
In the subsequent discussion, the attendees agreed on its basic goals and mission, which are particularly - care for the artistic and cultural values of the city of Olomouc and the Olomouc region, protection of valuable historical architecture and urbanism of the city of Olomouc, especially the Urban Heritage Reserve, rescue of endangered monuments, - protection of the environment, nature, and landscape, and care for them in the region, - monitoring the changes in the historical image of the city of Olomouc and the surrounding region, and expressing opinions on specific reconstructions, new constructions, and other architectural and urban interventions into its structure, - informing the public about planned construction and urban changes in Olomouc and the Olomouc region that will affect the architectural, heritage, and urban values of the affected locations, - gradual rectification of the most significant heritage, architectural, and urban damages caused to the Urban Heritage Reserve of Olomouc and other heritage and artistically valuable locations in Olomouc after World War II.
The Association, as a group of members representing various professions, including a significant number of experts such as art historians, heritage protection experts, historians, etc., thus offers relevant authorities the opportunity for open cooperation in addressing current and future architectural, urban, and landscape interventions in Olomouc and its surroundings. In doing so, it strives to connect various civil initiatives with similar goals. "We are convinced that only communication between representatives of decision-making bodies, experts, and engaged residents of Olomouc and the Olomouc region will contribute to preserving the values of this exceptional historical city, as well as to its further development, which will not suppress these values, but rather build upon them," says Mgr. Alexandr Jeništa, a member of the Association's committee. A promising aspect for the future is certainly the overwhelmingly positive response from the Mayor of the Statutory City of Olomouc, Martin Novotný, who recently met with representatives of the Association. In addition to specific cases that will be monitored and published on the website, the Association wishes to continuously remind and revive the cultural identity of the city of Olomouc, based on a multi-national foundation. "As heirs to this tradition, we share responsibility for preserving the artistic, heritage and cultural qualities of this city and maintaining a high level of architecture, culture, and the environment even today," summarized the Chairman of the Association, Martin Horáček.
